Wizzard Media, new owners of LibSyn podcast hosting service, reports over 1 billion podcast downloads in 2007. That's about 2.75 million downloads a day, up 300% from 2006.

Looks like podcasting is on the usual technology growth curve. Folks were wondering where the "chasm" would be (marketing folks know about the 'chasm' in the adoption-mass-acceptance curve for tech products), and we may have just crossed it.

If you are wondering if MP3-audio and podcasting is going to just be a fad, if it will be displaced by video, the answer seems to be no. With these rates of sales, personal audio players will soon become (are already?) as normal as cell phones. In fact, many cell phone models are now supporting MP3 downloads and playback.
